Lamon K. Griggs v. Chickasaw County, MS

U.S.D.C., Northern District of Mississippi, Aberdeen Division Cause No. 1:16-cv-00012-SA-RP

On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, a jury in federal district court in Oxford, Mississippi, returned a verdict in favor of Plaintiff Lamon K. Griggs in the above-referenced matter. Mr. Griggs was awarded $83,447.08 in compensatory damages against Defendant Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

The jury found that Chickasaw County terminated Mr. Griggs as solid waste enforcement officer in September 2015, and as court bailiff in December 2015, because Mr. Griggs ran for Sheriff of Chickasaw County against long-time chief deputy and now Sheriff James Meyers.

Attorneys for Plaintiff were Jim Waide and Rachel Pierce Waide of Waide & Associates, P.A., in Tupelo, Mississippi. Attorneys for Defendant were Daniel J. Griffith and Jamie Ferguson Jacks of Jacks Griffith Luciano, P.A., in Cleveland, Mississippi; and Gary L. Carnathan of Carnathan & McAuley in Tupelo, Mississippi. District Judge Sharion Aycock presided over the three-day trial.
